With the members of the Third legion and their allies spread through out swathes of books it can at times be quite a task to hunt down the descriptions of them, be it for art, conversions/kitbashes, lore discussions or any number of things. As such my hope with this thread is to make things a bit easier for fellow fans of the legion looking for such details.

This thread shall cover the The Archite Palatines, the Imperial Army regiment attached to the Emperor's Children.

Archite palatines-
Of those, only Herodotus Frazer seemed insulted. The current lord commander of the Archite Palatines had a high opinion of his strategic acumen, and was put out that she didn't share it. He was also of the opinion that compliance was best achieved by the sword, and that anyone not wearing a uniform ought to stay out of it. Grey-haired and thickly built, Frazer was more scar tissue than man, and, like her, on the cusp of his last decade in service. Word around the palace was that his replacement, a keen young officer named Fayle, was impatiently waiting for Frazer to hurry up and retire, or die. Frazer seemed inclined to do neither.

Frazer grunted, glaring about him. He was a handsome man, with the hawk-like mien and supercilious air the Europan aristocracies bred for. He wore the crimson and silver of his regiment, one thin hand draped over the basket hilt of his dress sabre. His fingers tap-tapped a martial rhythm on the silver guard. His junior officers were scattered throughout the crowd, doing their bit to bring honour to the regiment.

They spoke with their opposite numbers, taking pains to quietly emphasise the inevitable result of any serious resistance by local military commanders. Pyke had great confidence in their ability to be threatening. The Archite Palatines were a blooded regiment, drawn mostly from the military households of Europa. They had participated in the Antarctic Clearance, among other campaigns, and won the right to wear the aquila on their silver cuirasses for their heroism during the Selenite Purge. The Palatines had fought alongside several Legions in their storied history, but had found their match in the Third. Aristocrats were only truly comfortable among others of their kind. The Archite Palatines were human at least, if a trifle exotic. He wore the crimson and silver of his regiment, one thin hand draped over the basket hilt of his dress sabre. His fingers tap-tapped a martial rhythm on the silver guard. Fraver paused, one finger tapping the laspistol holstered at his waist.

Lord Commander Thaddeus Fayle-
He cast his eyes around the chamber, seeing silver and scarlet officers of the Imperial Army filling the lower tiers of the Heliopolis, their closeness to the floor indicative of their higher ranks. Lord Commander Fayle sat at the centre of a gaggle of flunkies and aides. He was a stern man with a horribly scarred face, augmented with a steel plate that obscured the left side of his head. Julius had never spoken to the man, but knew him by reputation: a skilled general, a blunt speaker and a ruthless, unforgiving soldier.

Istvann V- Mass conveyers of Lord Commander Fayle's Army units brought millions of armed men and their tanks and artillery pieces.

Archite Solar Auxilla contingents-

"The Archite Palatine cohorts were raised from among the Europan noble houses of Terra, a culture from which their patron Legion – the Emperor’s Children – itself drew recruits prior to the discovery of the Primarch Fulgrim on Chemos. Palatine honour livery features armour of silver and burgundy red, the latter a reference to the colour of the grapes cultured under the hermetically sealed agri-domes of the Europan clans, with undersuits of black."

From my interpretation of the latest Warcom article, the Palatines contained cohorts of Solar Auxilla within their millions strong ranks.

"These pictures are part of an ongoing creative development process, so think of them as sneak peeks of future work, rather than the finished product. Where we can, we’ve used names drawn from existing stories, either in previously-published game books or in the extensive range of Black Library novels. We’ve also taken inspiration from established colour schemes, where these are known.

What follows are ‘Solar’ patterned examples of various corps you may have read about – Calibanite Jaegers and Archite Palatines in particular – but the Imperium is a huge place. Other, as-yet-unseen patterns are likely to exist, so these are far from exhaustive. "

The inspiration for the Palatines may lie in the original imperial guard sculpts who had the aquila emblazoned on their chests.
