Forum Media Gallery function
Whilst able to both link to external images and directly embed / upload images as attachments the forum has a useful Media Gallery feature that enables use to save your own album(s), with viewing permission you can set yourself, or to upload into the general forum galleries.
This ensures that images will never expire, allows you to curate to images and allows other users people to rate and comment on them. It also solves problems hotlinks to the various image hosting options out there can cause when either images expire / are removed or hot linking is blocked on the host. (note, we also have hot linking protection set on this forum as well).
A cache (copy) of linked images is made and set to expire after 365 days to cover instances of broken links on all recent posts, however after this time images will be lost (to save site overheads).
At present individual users galleries are set at a 100MB limit which should suffice for hundreds of images, but if that limit is regularly reached it can be raised.
Ideally please try to save images as a smaller jpg. Going from a 3000x1000 pixel full quality .png to a 1000x400 .jpg could reduce an image from 3MB to 150kB for example.
