In lieu of having much to say on tactics until the new index, curious as to what folk regular play into and their wider local meta. Can range from a few games a year with mates over beers to 10+ reps a week on TTS or the like I expect!
I had an extended break (2 kids and moving continents will do that) before getting back into things and have a closed friend group where I play most games, pretty much the same format as I've always had wherever I've been playing (clubs / leagues were for Blood Bowl not 40k in my case)
Beer-hammer semi-competitive I'd call it. Nothing taken really seriously, couple of games a month but playing mostly 2k competitive matched pay rules and aiming to win. (maybe 60% of the group, rest less focused and standard training games for newer folk).
I did have a moment chatting to some, taking about lifting ramping up as he approaches 30 and then worked out I;d be playing 40k since before he was born, that was somewhat sobering!
Oddest thing about this group is that, Custodes aside, no marines and no Eldar. Everywhere else I have played they have always been all over the place!
Gearing up for 1-2 GTs a year and maybe the odd RTT. That puts me very much to the limit in the competitive scale of that closed group, but nowhere in the wider space locally.
The RTTs here are generally attended by a lot of the same faces, and certainly the GTs. They just happen to have multiple team Australia members (of WTC 2022 winning fame) on the regular, and folk who who regularly compete at that level with them.
Not the easiest thing to face when easing back into the competitive scene with limited time, but certinly a quick way to get up to speed. I have a feeling my life will be spent on mid-tables! Think that pretty typical of the majorit of folk who attend tournaments, with the bulk of peoplke who play never going to and an even wider number just in it for the minis! (I've certainly had periods of that too).
