Update: Emperor’s Children 10th Edition Index release date
Somewhat a minor update, but in the hubbub around this release the official Games Workshop twitter / X account has confirmed that the Emperor’s Children Index will release shortly after the Chaos Space Marine Codex Release.
Pretty much as expected, though we could have hoped for it to be at the same time.

Finally, the expect Chaos Space Marine Codex Preview has arrived
So there we have it, the Sunday Preview for the new Chaos Space Marine 10th Edition Codex has landed.
Now there’s little point going over the article itself in detail, you will have read it already for yourself. However, is there anything new we can gleam from the little extra information there is?
Well, yes, a couple of things and one massive red herring.
No, the Emperor’s Children are not in the Chaos Space Marine Codex
Hold on, before you pounce, yes this was already confirmed of course with the Empeor’s Children index announcement.
However the eagle eyed amongst you may have spotted that we were listed in the cover page of the new codex in the announcement video! What’s going on here? (hint, it’s not that Emperor’s Children are inside!)

Don’t strain your eyes on this screen-grab from the video. She Who Thirsts has done the work for you and confirmed that this is the cover page from the 9th Edition Chaos Space Marine Codex. If you look closely you can even see the 2022 copyright.
It;s an odd one for Games Workshop to be sure, but by far not the strangest things we have seen for them nor the largest oversight, this barely warrants a raised eyebrow.
Excitement over then, the Emperor’s Children index is not a hoax, and this was quite the tease for us though? no? Maybe not the best few minutes of excitement / confusion. There is a little more we can gleam though.
Which datasheet is to be dropped from the Chaos Space Marine Codex?
A quick bit of analysis here/ There are 49 Datasheets in the Index. Lucius and Noise Marines are dropping out. The Jump Pack Chaos Lord and Fireband are jumping in. That means we have lost one!
Now there are some prim candidates here. The Defiler and Biker kits are ancient. Huron Blackheart is one of the last of the Finecast miniatures (but with an expected pirates detachment, perhaps less likely to go).
The Exalted Champion doesn’t have a specific model. Fortifications seem to be on the way out / to legends. And there’s always the slim chance of Fabius coming home to our legion. (OK, that’s a stretch).
Huron dropping from the store, as the cultist unit that contained Firebrand, may be the biggest hint but it’s hard to know when exactly that was.
If forced to guess, the She Who Thirsts prediction would be on the Exalted Champion. Games Workshop really does not enjoy having rules without miniatures they can sell these days. For that reason poor old Huron is still next on the list.
We won’t know until there is a leak or the Codex itself is in hand. Games workshop has been surprisingly watertight on this release, normally by now there would be blurry photos of half or more of the codex floating around.

Emperor’s Children Implications
Unless we have the mother of all Surprises and Fabius moves across to the Emperor’s Children Index (miniscule chance) then it seems very little.
Should one of the more regular Chaos Space Marine units cross over that we were expecting to receive then there will a minor change to our eventual Codex Makeup. The Defiler only really fits the bill there and, let’s be honest, that isn’t much of a loss for how much use it sees.
The addition of Firebrand give us potentially one more Datasheet in our release, and makes the inclusion of Generic Emperor’s Children cultists slightly higher, but not by enough to change the rating. Should they come along then Likely he will as well so that would be one more minor datasheet.
Regardless, there is going to need to be an update our detailed analysis on what units we can expect to see in an Emperor’s Children Codex.
