Firebrand's Children Project Log

Good to know, thank you! I fantasized some time ago about having a strip pole Land raider, but upon checking, had only seen th Digital Dark pinup poledancer, which is way too big (although an amazing mini).
Yup, I find it's often hard to get stuff that scales correctly. I err on the side of smaller is better since Marines should be larger than humans anyway. LOTR minis are good for this.

Specially after the scale change for CSM, no I wonder if a lot of the bits you see online are beter for the old small CSM marines, or the newer ones... Although most of the times, everything is just set to the new scale.

Good old Hasslefree, know I had seen that somewhere before. I have a link somewhere I might be able to wrestle up, bunch of slaves, submissive, dominating etc. if going down that route. I had plans for a diorama once of a pleasure cult summoning a daemonette with untended consequences (recall seeing a pieces of art like that somewhere) and was thinking a bunch of them for the backdrop. Another thing I'd love to do if life didn't take up 90% of my time! Maybe when kids are older.

Think these were them:

Problem with some things 25 and 28mm scale and GW going 32 mm and then heroic 32mm is they can get really out of whack. Reckon the the base of a big gribbly that matters much less though.

Our release will be interesting, given rumours the red butchers we held back pending baseline SM terminator rescaling wondering if we are first off the ranks for CSM rescaling thanks to good old Fabius in the lore. Works if they want to fit the lore to that and then 2nd wave CSM updates after.

I feel more like we get a release not impacted by scale sop much (culists, possessed and the like) noise marines aside and then it;s CSM first, cults wave 2 second.

Great links, thanks!

Regarding termis and our release, now that they have rescaled imperial termis, I guess they'll rescale CSM termis and, with any luck, Thousand sons ones as well, thus opening the road for Butchers and our possible termis. Or perhaps they will rescale all of the imperial temi variants (Blood Angels, Wolves...) before throwing us a bone(r)

I'd imagine the majority would scale well enough either way as the CSM didn't take as much of a jump as the Primaris. I've used the old metal Noise Marine kits on Fafnir Rann, and the painted one with the Dark Apostle in my first post is legs from a Legionaries Kill Team kit.

I can't imagine the 3rd party stuff being too far apart.

Oh man, that's an excellent looking site, going to have to have a proper dig through their products later. A quick scan shows me women with a lot of variety in body types which is brilliant.

Dug out my Thirsty box, and got some more pics of future projects.

So what you have here are 5 Diaz Riders, 20 Daemonettes, a Mierce Minatures Pleasure Demon(can't remember the exact name), Creature Caster's version of Daemonettes and a Wargame Exclusive Daemonette dressed as an Inquisitior, which I think is a lot of fun.
Sadly the Creature Caster ones are massive, pretty much designed as display pieces, I guess.
Yedharo Savages, I believe they're designed to be female Bloodletters, but I quite dig the almost Giger/Aliens look, they could be Daemonettes obseesed with violence, perhaps? Also quite large, though.
One and three quarters of Diaz Daemon Princes, and a few more Rogue Trader lads that just arrived. The melta marine was released as a Nurgle/Death Guard, but the only things that mark him as such are the tentacle arm and tentacles from his face. Paint him pink and you got an EC, heh.
This is a few bits of a Wargame Exclusive pin-up variant of their Saint Celestine clone. Came in a bundle of miscast parts they do. Have the spare Celestine backpack/wings handy, and easy to scrounge up some spare arms. Think it'd make a fine cultist champion cosplaying as a naughty version of an Imperial Saint as a kind of in world/lore "lol at the Imperium" from the cult.

It's like a treasure trove with you at times! Hope you get time to get through that lot, going to be great to see them done.

Those giger-eqsue daemons are great. I have a whole folder of Giger inspired art and miniatures as it just fits parts of Slaanesh so well. Giger-helraiser-Blanche.

When I get around to trying to push my technique / learn a new style I want to lean into that with a limited dark colour palette, 'grim dark' aesthetic and female forms, ribbing and tubes / body horror. I just don't have the technique to pull it off yet. Very different from the clean style you hasve and I aspire to!

Those minis would be a brilliant test bed by the look of them though.

Something between those two, colour from one, form from other.

I'm hoping having the project log here will keep me on target to work on my EC, if not exclusively, regularly, as is I bounce around way too much.

Grim dark is a thing I adore, but just can't get, not sure if it's a technique issue or I just end up going clean, or what...

That Eldar and Flayer are rad, very cool idea to mix the two.

What timing, after earlier posting that bunch today, the post arrives and earlier than expected... more Rogue Trader Chaos Renegades...

I believe the chainsword/pistol one with the skinny long horns touching was listed as one of the first Emperors Children back in the day. Some are from other legions(fist shaking guy is World Eater) but nothing about them stands out that an appropriate paint job won't see right.
These ones on the other hand, are more specific to their gods. Top four are Tzeentch, the two with heads for torsos, not much can be done there without heavy conversion that I won't be doing to metal near my own age. The other two just have Tzeentch shoulder pads, may just be able to paint the symbol as a snake and an eye, call it a dirty joke...
Bottom right two are World Eaters, and the one pointing his bolter has a Khorne symbol on his shoulder and a bloodletter head that's off enough to be acceptable(though I'll probably try and make a mould of this to use as I won't file off the Khorne symbol) , the bloodletter head/fist shake next is weird enough to get away with, perhaps leave the helm black in another Giger/Aliens nod.
Bottom left, Death Guard, honestly looking at it properly, it's actually amazing how the one with the Nurgling is so on point to their theme. The other three legions are very, very different, where as this is just off by scale and refinement, it's got all the current style and details near locked in.

I really like to god-specific minis, they are so distinct and cool.

Oh, I adore them all, I really dig the whole Rogue Trader look. Some call it "janky", but I think that's quite unfair.

It's just a minor shame they'll not fit this project.
The slaaneshi marines are specially cool imho.

Shame indeed, but will def wait patiently to see if the warp wills you to finish them some day ;)

Yeah, very different style but still love the old stuff. Can almost feel the character and those 80s illustrations coming through. Have enjoyed seeing a few being updated to modern sculpts through 3d printing but keeping the aestheic (basically taking them from images and putting it into reality). There was a brilliant ork one awhile back on reddit.

I figure no issue putting on-EC stuff in the log either, can just add a folder for other Miniatures to the gallery as well if needed. I might end up painting of Eldar or Orks for friends and drop them into my own when the time comes, and if I have time!

Yeah, like, you can quite clearly see the modern Daemon Prince is heavily based off the old metal one upscaled and with options.

Yet more new arrivals, I swear one of these days I'll actually paint one of these things.

Knightmare Miniatures RT style renegades, was waiting ages for them to come back in stock. Real nice Spanish company, fist became aware of them as they do a line of Mala/Malice stuff that's just killer.
More Knightmare stuff, the marine top left is unusual enough I might get away with him as an EC. The Minoaurs should be perfect.
Last guy is really rad, a beakie with half his helmet bust and face melting. Very much intended as a DG(boils on his back), but perhaps it'd be possoble to get away with an EC paintjob and do the boils as eyes, like halfway into becoming a spawn.
Rogue Trader Juggernaut of Khorne, just sharing because It think it's rad. :ROFLMAO:

Old Sorcerer, Diaz sculpt Slaanesh Champion(I have the mounted one on the boob snake somewhere buried in a fantasy/aos box), and a few of the cat/devil girl familiars. @Sea Dragon I'll happily wing one of those familiars your way if you dm me an address, I remember you said you'd like one. I just picked these up because of the opportunity.

Got some time off coming up, hopefully actually get my brush wet for the first time in too long. Have an idea to try a NMM gold by priming a mini brown, zenithal white over it, airbrush the lot with transparent yellow, and then just fill in the purple panels. Try to save having to do a pile of filigree by hand. Might try it with that Fulgrim proxy from Wargame Exclusive.

Ok, now I really crave seeing the result of that NMM!

Another smaller update, I think I posted this Minotaur dread before, but here's a better look at the work done to make it more EC, I took as I was priming it the other day.

I left most of the imperial stuff, because I think that's pretty on brand for EC taking the piss. So it was just adding the III's and covering/sanding the Minotaur symbols for the most part. The hardest part was carving an EC legion symbol off a shoulderpad to cover up part of the loincloth/ptruges or whatever those leather flappy bits are called.
Just wanted to show this too, with every Dread, or the vast majority at least, I put a green stuff shim in their waist/torso connection. Makes them a little taller, and I find a bit more posable. Especially with Castaferrum, and double especially with Chaos Castaferrum where they have so little flexibility and often spikes getting in the way,
This is a WIP base for another EC Contemptor, you can see I was quite rough and ready with the nmm on the Raven Guard and his bits of gear. I don't think there's much need to go whole hog on something that'll barely get a glance when done. The big smoosh where his head was, is kind of a shame, as it's now almost completely covered by the Dread's boot. :ROFLMAO:

Ok, now I really crave seeing the result of that NMM!
This was an utter disaster. Almost soul destroyingly. Whole thing tinted a pukey green. I can fix it, I think, but I was so disheartened I popped the whole mini and all it's bits in a ziplock and put it away.
