The connections between the realities Old World of Warhammer Fantasy and 40k have popped up and been hinted to time and again with the most recent example coming from White dwarf in April 2023.

Another source came from 2003. The Liber Chaotica, a tome containing several volumes of research on the nature of chaos by the Scholar Richter Kless that is sent to the Templars of Sigmar by one of their servants.
Referencing possessed marines, the black crusades, the ''Cadiam Gate'', Khorne berserkers, daemon engines, the Norscans, chaos mutations, chaos artefacts, Dark Eldar and a number of other things, among them is our dear Third Legion.
Or as the follower of Sigmar refers to them, The Praetorians of the Pleasure God.

A LOOK AT THINGS UNKNOWN AND UNKOWABLE, BUT THINGS I HAVE SEEN DURING MY REASEARCH. MY EYES ARE NOT DECIEVED THEIR REIGN OF CORRUPTION IS NEARLY UPON US!

FEAR THE PRAETORIANS of Slaanesh, of they are terrible indeed!

I know not by what name they call themselves, I know simply that their fury and their debauchery surpasses all save the daemons themselves, and of them Slaanesh is well pleased! When and from where they fell from grace I cannot say, although I am beyond grateful that I have never seen these terrible warriors upon the battlefields of my own world. For surely if they had been, all the lands of Men would be lost by now.

More than mortals, though not of this realm, these dark beings I call Slaanesh's Praetorians are the most disturbing warriors I have seen to date. Huge they are a full metre taller than I. Their arms are larger than an athlete's legs, and their chests and massive and proportionate. Their armour is strange and bulky, made of no material that I know of, and decorated with runes and colours of the Pleasure God. Of greater stature than any weight lifter from the Tilean carnivals, these warriors are not lumbering or slow, moving with startling grace and speed.

Such is the nature of Slaanesh's blessings that mortals who follow His word and ways soon become accustomed and bored with the normal sensations of life. These damned beings are then driven to the most extreme of lengths to find even the most moderate fulfilment. So it is with these Praetorians. Their search for perfection has ended in corruption and depravity, and their only joys are found in the noise and horror of bloody combat.

Indeed, perhaps their most terrible aspect is the weaponry they bear. Their muskets and cannon are unlike any produced by men or dwarfs, spiting fire and death faster than is possible to follow. They travel in mighty vehicles of steel that make the greatest technical innovations of out own Empire seem paltry and small in comparison. Their weapons scream as if alive, filling the air with palpable horror and distress, and turning bones to liquid and blood to steam.

Their lord is a mighty prince from the ranks of Slaanesh's daemons. Once counted amongst the greatest of Men, he was raised to his position for his total dedication to the pursuit of pleasure and debauchery. He and his warriors have fallen from the ranks of Grace, and now seem to pull all others down into the Pit with them.

I fear these man as I fear no other servant of the Pleasure God, for they do not require the widening of the Chaos Gates to spread their corruption and bring their destruction. They descend from the sky, bringing death, and no-one, not man, dwarf or elf would be able to stand before their fury. And so when the priests and wise men look to the north and whisper their fears of the enchroaching darkness, I shall turn my gave instead to the heavens. For now I see just how vast this universe truly is, and how numerous and mighty are the enemies pitted against us. I fear now that one day the clouds shall fall upon our heads, and within them shall be the Praetorians of the Lord of Pleasure, come to steal our souls and destroy our bodies.

When pitching my name in the time honoured theory of nimerology- pintology from the mages of Araby, against that of the Pleasure God, I cannot ignore the fact that they compliment each other perfectly. The symbiosis is almost too beautiful to believe!
His armour writes with the faces of his victims. I swear I glimpsed my own swirling amidst the mass of tortured souls

The fluted organ pipe in Nalfenburg cathedral fill the raise conclave with beautiful music, that use to bring tears to my eyes. What awful cacophony this warriors makes in battle I dread to contemplate.
These creatures resemble men only insofar as they have four limbs and walk on two legs. Apart from that, with the weapons they wield, they look totally alien and nightmarish to behold.

What manner of creature are these? Such ornate armour! Such alien faces...Sigmar preserve me, but I think I know what they are!
What are they? I do now know! What do they want? Our deaths. Know will they achieve this? With great savagery. Know can we stop them? We cannot. Know do you know of this? I do not know. Are you alive? I am dead. Are you sure? How can I be? What is your name? Richter Kless. Who is your Gods? Sigmar the Almighty. Are you certain? Is not certain my loyalty! Oy Richter you question yourself! ...lmanec? Still the same Richter dull as ever. Leave me now, I demand it! You need me I have shown you true pa... You ruined me... Oh no your ruination is far from complete ...are me

Oh course, the answer is that Slaanesh existed before 40k itself, outside of lore.

The Liber Chaotica is an absolute stellar read, incredibly fun.

Indeed! Such an amazing book! I had the full edition, with all 5 books, before I had to sell it for travel money lol. I remember that Slaanesh book was specially good, with that Marquis d'Sade inspired narrator and all the amazing illustrations.
